ISKM04 Diploma thesis seminar

During this seminar, we had a different teacher every week who introduced us to a spheres in which we could write our thesis. The teachers explained the topics very well, and they gave excellent examples. I discovered different spheres I could write about, which probably would only have occurred with this seminar. I also appreciated the online learning and the opportunity to watch the lecture whenever possible. The outcome of the course was to write a thematic research paper, which I wrote on Balancing Privacy and Algorithmic Transparency: The Role of Ethical Design in Social Media. I am interested in privacy and social media and how designers can influence this, so I could continue this topic while writing my thesis. This seminar helped me to learn how to search for and work with resources better. It also helped me sort out my thoughts about what I wanted to write about. Also, I decided to write my thesis in English to practice my writing skills. It is challenging, but I like it.

ISKM06 Learning society

This subject was fascinating, either because of the teaching form or the teacher’s enthusiasm. I liked that we, the students, could choose the topics we wanted to learn about and which ones we could write articles about on Medium. The lectures were interesting and captivatingly delivered, and I also appreciated the discussions in the second half of the class. The final exam, in the form of a conference, was a challenge for me as presenting in front of people was stressful. But I took it as a challenge and overcoming my fears as an empowering experience.

ISKM10 Information Behavior

At first, I didn’t know what to expect from this seminar, but in the end, I was very impressed. I am very poor at writing academic texts, and when I saw what kind of assignments I would have to do, I was a bit scared. In the end, I also enjoyed doing the tasks; it helped me practice writing academic texts and working with sources. The classes were also exciting, and the teacher was nice. I also appreciated the different international guests who gave us presentations. I also liked the final test, which had open questions, and I could write them out; the lecturer evaluated the students’ actual knowledge and not just memorized facts. During this seminar, I learned important information about information behavior, which I will use in my UX designer work.

ISKM48 Service Design Workshop

I enjoyed this subject most of all. The goal was to try the first half of the design process: Double Diamond. I worked in a team with two other classmates on a real problem from a real client. Our task was to find out why the employee’s system Portál is not being used enough. I had the opportunity to try user testing, analyze the results, propose possible solutions, and finally present the results to the client. I am happy that this course was practically oriented and that we had a mentor available for consultation all the time.

KPI22 Creative Work with Information

From the start of the semester, I was surprised that this seminar was only online and had no lessons. Later, I saw how it would work, and it worked well. Every week, I completed assignments ranging between self-studying, completing tasks and tests, and evaluating classmates’ tasks. I also had to write a creative diary during the whole semester, which was annoying for me. The diary alone didn’t give me any value, but the tasks where we had to try different creative tools were inspiring. I learned various techniques, such as reading faster or using mind maps effectively. Evaluating the tasks of my classmates was something I enjoyed; I was curious how they understood the assignment and what they created. It was interesting to see how everyone made something unique and different. Overall, this subject positively impacted my future studies and career.
