Why KISK?
I’d love to share a little story about myself and how I ended up at KISK.
Let me start by telling you about my childhood experience. Since I was a little girl, I was amazed by modern technologies. I am talking mostly about phones and computers. My dad is a huge fan of modern technology, and whenever a new phone or PC was released, he would bring it home. I was lucky enough to have access to these devices, and I took the opportunity to explore. I remember spending hours on MS Paint on our super cool PC with Windows 2000. I drew whenever I had the chance and experimented with different methods to create a snake. It was so much fun! As I was getting older, the era of The Sims 2 had begun. Exploring cheats and creating my whole new game was amazing. It followed by finding out how to convert a song from YouTube to .mp3 file, so I can download it for my MP3 player, or find out how I can add an “unlimited” number of games to my Nokia phone so I can “flex” in the school. I was thrilled by all the amazing things I could do on my computer!
In high school, I had a tough time with biology, chemistry, and French, but I found my love for numbers thanks to an amazing math teacher.
After high school, I applied for Applied Informatics at Masaryk University (MU), and I got accepted. It was a turbulent period for me, and unfortunately, I had to quit school. My next university study was Special Education, also at MU. During my studies, I was fortunate enough to intern at IBM as a Junior Graphic Designer. It was a great experience and I knew I wanted to continue with design. After completing one internship, I was lucky again and got another one at Red Hat as a UXD Intern.
This is where it all began. When I first started, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but soon I discovered the magic behind the whole process. I realized it is not just about choosing nice colors and fonts for websites or creating beautiful color palettes, stunning icons, and breathtaking animations. The product may look great, but it’s important that it also functions well and is accessible to users. If it doesn’t meet their needs, its appearance becomes irrelevant. As I mentioned before, I decided that I wanted to design, but from this point, I wanted to start designing things that are going to help people, not frustrate them, and complicate their lives. I attended many online courses, read books, and watched YouTube videos about designing. After completing my bachelor’s degree in special education, I landed a full-time job as a UX Designer. A few months later, three of my friends casually mentioned KISK. They said a lot of positive things about this study program. I checked KISK’s official webpage and was surprised to discover that I can study UX design at MU. I needed a no more, and I applied.
Boom. I am here, and I am really happy. So what are my expectations? I expect to learn all the theory I couldn’t learn on my own. I hope I will have a chance to work on real projects, which are going to bring me new knowledge and experience that I can apply later during my professional career. My goal is to get and master’s degree in a field I am passionate about, to meet new inspiring people, and to become more educated.
